Governor Almond Endorses Harriman in 5th Ward Race

PROVIDENCE Governor Lincoln Almond today formally announced his endorsement of 5th Ward Republican candidate Mark Harriman. In a written letter to the candidate dated October 26, 1998, the Governor stated "I am pleased to endorse your candidacy for the City Council in Providence's Fifth Ward."

Citing the candidate's record as a businessman and civic leader, the Governor expressed confidence in Harriman's abilities, "your vision, experience and energy will prove to be invaluable tools when confronting the complexities of the City's finances and the quality of life for your constituents in Mount Pleasant and Elmhurst..I look forward to seeing you in Providence City Hall."

Harriman gratefully acknowledged Governor Almond's endorsement. "The Governor's endorsement of my candidacy is a validation of what I have strived for in this race: to prove that a Republican can run and win an issue-oriented race in the City of Providence. The Democrats have had a stranglehold on the City Council for decades and that is dangerous for Providence. I thank him for demonstrating his faith in my abilities and I look forward to working tirelessly on behalf of my neighbors to prove him right."
